Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Location: Rotterdam

Join a dynamic, international environment where your work is truly valued and where you contribute every day to a more sustainable world.

Value Maritime and Value Carbon are two highly complementary companies advancing the sea and land-based energy transition as part of the Value Group. Together, the mission is clear: to help clients achieve valuable emission reductions through sustainable, innovative technologies.

Value Maritime develops and delivers innovative technologies that help reduce shipping emissions and comply with international regulations.
Value Carbon builds on this technology by managing the entire CO₂ value chain on land, from offtake and processing to transport, utilisation, reuse, and storage, thereby playing a key role in the circular carbon economy.

The Role

As Chief Operating Officer (COO), you are responsible for the operational strategy, execution, and scaling of both Value Maritime and Value Carbon. You translate strategy and commercial ambitions into robust processes, scalable operations, and reliable execution.

Your primary focus is on professionalising and scaling land-based CO₂ capture projects, while maritime activities remain an important complementary pillar. You ensure that projects, from design through realisation and operation, are delivered efficiently, safely, and profitably.

You work closely with the CEO, CFO, and CCO and act as the connecting link between technology, projects, operations, and supply chain. In this role, you are crucial in realising growth, predictability, and operational excellence.

  • Design scalable structures, processes, and governance suitable for international growth
  • Set up the organisation to deliver the service model for CO₂ projects

Projects & Operations

  • Responsible for project management, realisation, and operation of CO₂ capture installations (land-based and maritime)
  • Safeguard planning, budget, quality, safety, and performance across projects
  • Optimise end-to-end processes including engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, and operations

Supply Chain & Partners

  • Build and manage a reliable international supply chain
  • Select and manage EPC partners, suppliers, and operational partners
  • Contract and performance management of strategic partners

Organisation & Team

  • Lead operations, project, engineering, and supply chain teams
  • Build and professionalise the operational organisation in a scale-up context
  • Develop KPI frameworks, reporting, and performance management
  • Create a culture of ownership, safety, and continuous improvement

Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (including safety, environmental, and industrial standards)
  • Identify and mitigate operational and project-related risks
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including authorities and certification bodies.

What we are looking for

  • Senior leadership experience in operations, projects, or industrial environments
  • Strong background in scaling project-based or asset-heavy organisations
  • Proven experience with land-based industrial projects (energy, infrastructure, process industry)
  • Strategic mindset combined with hands-on execution power
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Experience working with EPC partners and complex supply chains
  • High safety, compliance, and risk awareness
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-growing scale-up environment
  • Strong communicator across technical, commercial, and executive stakeholders

What we have to offer

  • A key executive role within an innovative and sustainable scale-up
  • The opportunity to shape and scale CO₂ capture solutions with real global impact
  • An informal yet professional working environment in Rotterdam
